Revolution 2010 Spring Break Trip to Memphis, TN
partnering with Service Over Self (SOS)
UPDATE:
The team is set. Please pray for all 10 of us for safe travel, good weather, and for God to work through us and in us.The Need in Memphis
Thousands of homes in Memphis are in shocking condition. Many are unsafe to live in. Elderly persons and families live in fear, dreading simple things like the next rain or the next inflated utility bill due to poor insulation. The causes of this kind of poverty are complex and there are no quick and simple solutions. However, as students, the semester breaks do provide a unique opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s love by serving people who are so used to being forgotten.
Service Over Self that is doing some pretty incredible ministry in the poorest neighborhoods in Memphis. The vision statement of SOS is to glorify God by proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed through urban home camps. They are truly excellent at helping missions teams make the most of the time they have. To learn more about SOS check out

What will we do during the week?
Our group will be divided up depending on the type of projects they have that week. Because each group will spend the entire week working with one family, there are many opportunities to share our lives and our faith with the people we are serving.
Projects include everything from roofing to installing a new bathroom. But you don’t need to be a carpenter to help out—they have great leadership on every worksite to help everyone get involved. Their motto is, “We’re missionaries first and carpenters second.” So while the construction is a huge part of their ministry, they are very enthusiastic about interacting with people and children in the community.
